Mark Sajatovich

Statement

Mark Sajatovich views painting as an opportunity for artists to use their creativity to organize their interpretation of the world on canvas. Art requires having faith that the meaning of each work will reveal itself. His own perspectives are laid out in the acrylic pieces that line his studio walls, part of a larger vision of society.

As de Kooning said, "What you do when you paint, you take a brush full of paint, get paint on the picture, and you have faith." For Sajatovich, the best outcome is that every new piece challenges viewers to contemplate and debate interpretation. Ultimately, his views are important to understanding his art because as an artist, he has always believed art to do more than replicate a lens.

While much of his work is currently exploring the combination of gothic contemporary with geometric abstraction, each brush stroke layers the canvas with fresh perspectives which reflect how the experience and techniques of an artist might produce original images of an abstract society.
